Ever since I remember, I’ve always loved looking up at the sky in the evenings and gazing at all the different stars and constellations.
Unfortunately, how much ever I love the Dubai life and especially the well-lit and bright nights in the city, it does have the drawback of not many stars being visible.
My 2 years spent in quaint Wollongong in Australia showed me a whole new sky. It was then a small university-town away from the hustle and bustle of Sydney. That meant a beautiful black canvas full of bright stars and the patterns that God drew with them.
When the hubby and I met and started dating, our favorite spot was the beach, where we stopped on our way back from work and discussed our day with the sunroof of the car open and just gazing up at the stars, the moon, the vastness of the sky and the sea.
One of my life’s best memory to date is taking a walk down the riverside in Zermatt, Switzerland with the hubby in August 2011, where we stood at a bridge and looked up at the sky. I had never seen so many stars in my life! I should add that Zermatt is a car-free city that is home to the mighty and most beautiful Matterhorn peak that can be seen from most places in the city, with its silver peak reflecting moonlight even at night. Both of us love the feeling of gazing up at stars and reflecting back on life and its different aspects. That night sky is a photograph etched in my memory forever.
I dont think I can live a suburban life, I need to live in the hustle and bustle of a city like Dubai. However, once in a while I do hope for these night time escapes where life should just pause and nothing is in between the sky, the stars and I.
