With the 45th UAE National day on 2nd December coming closer and the holidays already being announced, I thought it was much needed to be doing a flag-related craft activity with my 4-year old.
We had lots of fun doing this, as we talked about different facts about Dubai and the UAE, reinforcing what was being done in school this week. They had a camel and a falcon visit them in school and A actually held the falcon on his arm! It’s great that they get an early start to learn about the culture and traditions of the place which is home to them.
This is a very simple craft idea, using craft sticks, paints and glue. We painted the craft sticks in different colors of the UAE flag and then stuck them on the paper. We used poster paints, as these are thicker and work better than water colors on the sticks. Acrylic or fabric paints can also be used. You will need 4 sticks in each color, to get the correct height and width for the flag.
Materials you will need:
12 craft/popsicle sticks
Paper or canvas to stick the flag on
Step 1: Start by painting 4 sticks in each of the flag colors – Red, Green, White and Black – on both sides. Leave them aside to dry.
Step 2 : Apply glue on one side of the red sticks, and start sticking each stick on the paper, all 4 sticks vertically alongside each other.
Step 3: Repeat the glue and sticking process horizontally with the green, white and black sticks, as shown.
Your UAE National Day flag is complete!
Please leave me a comment if you like this craft and would like to see more simple crafts to be done with your young kids.
