My kids see their dad only on Fridays.
But the first thing dad does every night when he comes to bed, is kiss them on their foreheads.
The kids get to play with their dad only on Fridays.
But dad knows most of what they have been upto everyday.
The kids only eat 2 meals in a week with their dad.
But it is their dad who sits and feeds them those 2 meals, (and knows how much of a struggle it is!)
My husband works 6 days a week, and has only a Friday off, to be there for his parents, his wife and his kids. But he makes sure that he is there whole heartedly for all of us.
He makes it up to the kids by spending quality time with them on that one day, be it feeding them lunch, playing with their toys, going out to the park or a play area, etc.
He does it all because he wants to. He would love to have more time in his life to spend with them. But bills have to be paid. School fees have to be paid. And he has to go to work. Owning and managing a small business comes with it’s own set of ups and downs, and hence the long hours that he puts in. But, it also means that he has little bit of a flexibility to be there for doctor visits and school concerts.
In so many ways, he is a much better parent for the boys than I am. He can handle the tantrums (the kids’ and mine!) with so much patience, it amazes me. He can do the ‘boy play’ of playing cricket, teaching then how to pedal a bike or how to roller-skate. He can make them laugh endlessly with his tickles.
I always say that his parenting starts where mine reaches a tough point. He is the one who gives me strength to be a better parent.
Physically, he might be present only on the weekends, but his mind and soul are always with his family. He is truly the best dad my boys could ever ask for!
Wishing you a very Happy Father’s Day, my love!
