My son, A, had been to Mattel Playtown in Citywalk, Dubai on a school trip with his friends, and couldn’t stop talking about it for days to come. They went for a short while, and they caught Barney and his team in action, but he missed seeing his current favorites – Bob, the Builder and Fireman Sam. I had promised him we would definitely be making a trip to Playtown with his little brother, P during the summer break.
Mattel Playtown has 5 diferent themed zones, dedicated to different characters, namely, Barney, Bob the builder, Thomas and Friends, Fireman Sam and Angelina Ballerina. Each zone has different activities based on the different characters, mainly helping with developing motor skill and social skills. There is a stage where the different characters come on to sing, dance and interact with their little audience.
So on a Thursday afternoon, my two super excited boys and I, went to Mattel Playtown! To save time, we bought our tickets online. We got our entry wrist bands from the reception and proceeded to the first floor, where we were just in time to catch Bob the Builder live in action, on the centrestage.
Bob taught them how to use basic tools like hammer, screw driver and drill machine. After the show, we got a picture taken with Bob, himself. Then, we went to the Bob the Builder zone, where we saw the different construction vehicles, played with sand and loaded bricks on conveyor belt and operated a crane, too!
Next up, was the Fireman Sam ‘Welcome to Pontypandy’ show on the centre stage. Sam introduced different characters of his small town, Pontypandy and gave some fire safety tips, through a song and dance routine. We rushed to get a picture with Fireman Sam after the show and then headed to his zone, where we got to sit on the fire engine, Jupiter and crawl through a make-believe house to get away from a fire. They also have a small cable climbing course for older children.
We then headed to the cafe for a snack and drink to refuel ourselves. Up next was the Thomas and Friends soft play area, which had a ball pit, slides, tunnels and a viewing deck too! It took a lot of coaxing to get my younger son out of there!
We then headed to the second floor to see Barney’s world. He is truly everyone’s favourite Dinosaur – I was as excited as the kids to be visiting his world. And I wasn’t dissapointed! I felt like I had magically stepped into one of his videos, because the place looked exactly like we have seen there and imagined it to be. Some of the features that they added to the park area – like the two seater bench, the small bridge, the hopscotch tiles on the floor, etc. were just like in the DVDs we have seen. Even the ‘indoor’ area had so many precise details. The kids loved playing on the slides and riding cars around the park area and had a lot of fun indoors too.
Sadly, I sprained my ankle towards the end of our time there and had to cut our trip short and head back home. But not without a promise to the kids that we will be back to this wonderful world once again!
