Dear A
Today, on your 5th birthday, I’m not going to tell you how much I love you…you already know that. I’m not going to tell you about the man I wish for you to become, there is time for that.
I once read somewhere:
“Do not forget to wish your mom on your birthday, its one of the most special days of her life”
I can tell you that this does hold true. I don’t think I can ever forget the day you were born. The feeling when a mother holds her baby for the first time cannot be described. It can only be experienced. Yes, we had a tough first few days, but we got through. And just when we were having a good time, your little brother arrived and I can’t even imagine how your little heart and mind must have felt about sharing your mom with another human being who came out of nowhere. But before we all realised, this little boy has become your best friend, and you are his guardian angel.
You are very different from most kids your age. You have just 1-2 friends and prefer being in your closed group. You prefer a quiet birthday celebration at home with family, and a simple chocolate cake. You are so organised and creative at the same time. That spark in your eye when I tell you “let’s clean up the toy drawer” or “organise the bookshelf”, amuses me, no end. I love the way you talk and the ideas you get in your head. I love doing arty n crafty stuff with you, love playing with you, love reading to you.
Yes, I know and I’m very sorry that I lose my patience a bit too often. But I do wish you wouldn’t cling onto me so much…be more independent, at times. Take me less for granted during your tantrums. But I know, you’re only so little…only 5.
I can’t wait for you to grow up. I want to see you learn new things and explore new horizons. I want to learn with you. I want to see the man you will become. But then, I don’t want that to happen too soon. I want to hug and kiss you, tell you stories, put you to bed. I want to create more memories with you.
You are rare. You are special. You are all mine. Well, OK and your dad’s. And your brother’s. And Grandparents’, uncles’ and aunts’ and cousins’. You hold a special place in all our lives. Our world is incomplete without you in it.
We all love you. Happy 5th birthday!
From,
Mumma and everyone else who loves you.
