Rainbow Binoculars Craft
Continuing our tradition of crafting fun toys to play with, we decided to make Binoculars to add to our ‘Rescue team’ toys.
The boys’ loved playing with their DIY Walkie-talkie and were super excited to make these binoculars.
I’m Bored Activity Jar
It’s Spring break! The kids are home on a break from school. How often do you hear the words “I’m bored!”? It’s strange how the kids have a house full of toys and games but they never seem to have anything to do. I decided to make an activity jar for them, with the names of all their toys and activity ideas. They would have to pick one anytime they were bored and then do that activity.
Keeping with our crafty tradition, we decided to decorate the jar on the outside ourselves.
Mother’s Day craft
Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and I wanted the boys to do a craft that would involve my younger son, 3 years old, to be able to participate in too. It had to be something they could make for their Grandmothers and aunt, as well. What better than a DIY photo frame with a special picture of each one in it as a keepsake!
I had recently discovered Amazon India, and found these variety packs of washi tapes on sale. I ordered them to get them delivered to my parents who were visiting Mumbai at the moment. Naturally, I was itching to use them as soon as I received them. This special Mother’s Day craft just HAD to be done with these washi tapes.
The DIY photo frame is really simple to do, and my 3 year old was able to work with the tapes too. It takes less than 20 minutes, provided you have a printed photo already.
DIY Maze
We love crafting something useful that can be used to play with later. And using materials that are already available at home, makes it even more fun.
Since we have started crafting, I collect all sorts of stuff from Toilet paper rolls to Shoe boxes to cereal boxes and some chocolate wrappers too. Coming up with a craft idea and then hunting around the house looking for materials, is something we love doing as much as the craft itself. My niece and nephew got a hand-held Pinball game recently, and that gave me the idea of making a DIY maze or a marble run for my sons. We used a shoe box lid and some straws to make our maze. It’s fairly simple to make, except for the walls of the maze itself. You can choose to copy my layout or just do a simple Google search to learn how to create your own maze design.
Who doesn’t love Christmas time? Even though we don’t ‘celebrate’ Christmas as a tradition, we love putting up a small Christmas tree at home, buying presents for the kids (from Santa, of course!), visiting Christmas fairs and displays around town, and doing Christmas-themed crafts, of course.
Last year, we made some Christmas Tree ornaments using craft sticks and this year we made some salt dough ornaments for our tree. Once winter break started, the kids wanted to do other activities for Christmas, like baking cookies and a Santa-themed Craft too. Since I collect all sorts of bottles, paper carton boxes, toilet paper rolls, wrapping papers and other things that can be re-used or recycled for craft purposes, we decided to use toilet paper rolls to make our very own Santa. We just needed some colored paper, craft eyes, cotton, scissors and glue to get started, and it took us less then 20 minutes or so to make our cute Santas.
It’s no secret for anyone who reads my blogs or follows me on Instagram, that my elder son loves Rainbows. He loves doing activities that involve rainbow colors. Recently, while looking for some fun activities for him, we came across the Walking Rainbow experiment and decided to give it a try.
This experiment uses basic ingredients available in your kitchen and is very easy to set-up. It’s great to teach them about color mixing, and primary and secondary colors. It take 3-4 days for the complete effect to take place, and will require some patience on the kids’ part.
Recently, we received a Balloonee disposable Helium gas tank and a set of balloons from Brothers Gas, and I wanted to plan some fun for the kids with these. I thought of doing some Halloween decor with the balloons to get into the ‘spirit’ of the season (pun intended).
I am a mom of two boys, ages 5 and 2.5. I am surrounded by cars, especially fire engines and police cars, fire stations, car tracks, tow trucks, etc. Recently, we got them their Build-a-Bear teddies and even those had to be dressed as a Firefighter and a Pilot. Next, daddy bought them Firefighter and Police helmets. It was a matter of time before my elder son asked me for a Walkie-Talkie set to complete their “Emergency Emergency” pretend play game.
I told him that I had an idea to make these walkie-talkie sets ourselves, and their cousins (ages 10) decided to join us for an afternoon of crafting fun. Ideally, a juice carton box can be used to make these, but since I did not have any of those, we searched the pantry for similarly sized boxes, like ones from tea bags, Kinder Egg chocolates, etc.
Nothing like a rainbow-themed craft to brighten up a summer afternoon at home. We are always looking for new ways to keep us busy and away from screen-time during the long summer months at home. If, like us, you are not travelling during the summer vacations and need ideas to keep the children constructively entertained and busy indoors, then look no further than here.
