One of the biggest dilemmas facing modern-day parents is the ever-increasing number of fun and educational toys available for their kids, and the lack of space to store them. I recently came across an online toy library, www.ubitoyz.com and think it is a brilliant concept and the solution to most parents’ troubles. Ubitoyz goes a step further than being a toy library, it offers the option of selling toys too.
June, in Dubai, sees temperatures going up to 40°C and July and August seem like you’re living on the sun itself! We are fortunate enough to be able to spend most of our time indoors with air conditioning. The summer vacations will soon be here and sadly, we will be spending the entire 70-odd days of our summer vacations here in Dubai.
We are going to need a truckload of entertainment to keep an almost 5-year-old and a 2-year-old busy. Entertainment that is not screen-time and gadget related. Entertainment that can be constructive play, leading to brain development – development and exercise of both the right and left sides, i.e, creative and rational sides of the brain.
My kids see their dad only on Fridays.
But the first thing dad does every night when he comes to bed, is kiss them on their foreheads.
The kids get to play with their dad only on Fridays.
But dad knows most of what they have been upto everyday.
The kids only eat 2 meals in a week with their dad.
But it is their dad who sits and feeds them those 2 meals, (and knows how much of a struggle it is!)
Post my mother’s heart attack last month, our family has been shaken up. It has disturbed me deeply and such a close encounter with life makes you re-evaluate life and it’s relationships, the true meaning of happiness and what really matters. I had put down my thoughts in a previous post: A wake-up call!
A thought that has stayed with me since then, is that if I still need my mother with me at every step, how dependent are my kids, who are just 4 and 2 years old, on me.
They have a whole life ahead of them and a mother is one of the most important companions in the journey of life. She is not simply known as “a cook, nurse, nanny, teacher, caregiver, best friend in one”. She truly lives up to all those roles, and more.
5th of October is a special day in my family’s lives…especially for my dad! That’s the day he came to Dubai for the very first time..
All the way back in 1969 (47 years ago!)
All the way from India on a cruise liner.
All the way back when the United Arab Emirates was not even commemorated.
